Macramè Laboratory

The technique of artistic yarn of macramé is a very old work: it has Middle Eastern origins and in Italy it spread from the 16th century, especially in the Ligurian territories, which has always been a crossroads of meetings between merchants. The threads are positioned in a die and the processing is intertwined with each other, vertically, with different types of knots of which the most famous and used are called knot and flat knot.

The function of the different nodes changes according to the position. The term macramè derives from the Arabic word migramah, which means fringe. This original technique is characterized by the union of many knots, made by hand, which create a more or less complicated geometric pattern.

The most used yarn is cotton or silk, but you can use any type of material and different thicknesses to get original and different results. With this technique you can make original artisanal jewels such as bracelets with authentic swarowski proposed for our workshop, which will be held by the Artisan Master Franca Verteramo.
